g,
As to the banks or communications companies we already have a bank act and all sorts of regulatory rules.. The government has no lack of tools for infringing upon our business. I cannot buy that part. The bank act alone has been a stumbling block already to foreign ownership and mergers. I admit I did not even consider your point on the grandfathered trusts though... Yes I agree that could have been a problem in the energy sector.. I was thinking more along the lines that our trusts would become like the US model where they basically just deplete the resource with no external replenishment..

You ask "Is that too much to ask?" and my answer is that "it would be the wrong thing to ask"..... and the trust taxation issue will seem trivial in comparison

Yep.. this too shall pass.. This government is not beyond redemption ... but I'm watching closely.. and still terribly disappointed... but on some counts I'm too naive ..

My Thunder doing well today :O)
