Passing around scraps of toilet paper with numbers printed on them makes a lot more sense. No it doesn't, most people I see when I go to the mall pass around a little plastic card, lots of green pieces of paper or lots of shiny lumps of metal just isn't as fashionable or trendy as slinging a piece of plastic on the counter. It's much easier for that russian hacker to fake some credit card wealth than green paper wealth or gold metal wealth eh? Doesn't matter however, because that card is light and portable, carry 50,000 to buy your new mercedes, now which form of 50,000 is easiest to transport in your suit? The bags of cash, the bags of gold, or the checkbook and credit/debit card? Money that is transportable will always win out over money that is not - people like convenience and ease. My grandpa used to haul loads of chickens in his wagon to trade for some pigs - hauling a credit card is easier eh?But seriously I think you are missing the point. It doesn't matter if we pass around metal lumps or use a payment chip imbedded under our skin. Right, that is correct, crooks are gonna be crooks no matter if our money is made out of gold, silver, paper, seashells, wompums, plutonium, plastic pieces, etc etc. You are not one of those silly people that say the government lies about CPI and all other kinds of things but then say they are truthful about all the gold in fort knox are you? I don't believe any gold is in fort knox or in some gold ETF - why do you? Because you see ILD post some numbers on a web board? huh? What matters is that the government is restricted to how much money they can print. Then design a system that controls for this. What matters is that crooks don't get into positions of power, but that even good men become crooks with too much power - so like the founding fathers said - disperse the power - do not let it collect and concentrate - but a successful capitalist like Billy G can't help but to have lots of power very concentrated eh? Tax the hell out of their wealth and ahhaha and grace and friends cry out the evils of socialism. What is it the homies short people are complaining about over on the real estate thread, just when the titanic was to really sink - billy G and warren B come along and disturb the free market with thier masses of collected "units of labor" And preferably whatever we are trading (lumps or bits) would be backed by something that represents true wealth, the labor of man. You are making much more sense to me than General Chen, right - how do we effectively represent the labor of man and spread the tokens of that representation around - gold or paper or ID chips - their can be evil in all forms - the trick is to minimize the evil - 30 billion people in the future are not going to be passing shiny metal tokens back and forth - people like chen and trotsky that waste time advocating such sillyness could better allocate time into devising ways to make the system more trustworthy that we are going to have - smart cards and ID chips.
