And about the fact that excercising an ISO is a taxable event at the price the stock was trading at the time of exercise, so even if you end up selling at a much lower price, AMT gets you.

Thanks to AMT, it's entirely possible to have a tax bill larger than the amount of money you actually made. The IRS taxes you on how much you could've made if you were smart or lucky.

They might as well tax all lottery ticket buyers on the grand prize they could've made if they'd happened to have gotten the winning ticket.
