I guess the analysts will reiterate buys on HBs as "consumers are obviously foregoing other purchases while saving for a new home."

They would be half right. Consumers are foregoing other purchases while PAYING for their new home, and it's insurance, and it's taxes... ;)

My thinking is that the reason so much attention is paid to the housing stocks these days is that housing is in the news a lot. They are getting a lot of action because the real estate market is tanking.

Really the entire sector is pretty tiny part of the stock market. When the real estate market is not on anyone's lips they don't get a lot of attention paid to them and they tend to be cheap.

Eventually either the real estate market will tank worse and people will sell them, or the market will normalize and nobody will pay attention to them anymore.
