Let me get this right. If the temperature goes up in a small area like NY it's global warming. If it goes down in a small area like southern calif, it doesn't mean a thing because who cares about a small area.

Sure I do. The average (i.e. annual mean) temperature of L.A. has been below 65.5 degrees for the past seven years. That's cooler than during the period between the years 1980-1997, like on the order of a few degrees.
