I doubt if Freidman is taken seriously in US military-foreign policy circles. He's sort of a neo-con fellow traveller, without the intellectual depth. "Public intellectuals" are the liberals ineffective answer to conservative talk radio ;-) Notice that the "Iraq Study Group" which is actually adult supervision by Daddy's friends - decides Iraq policy.
