I think some of it is stress but I also think conditions/policies allowed such developments to occur and certain types of people who get their jollies off on torture were attracted to the situation........and enhanced it. Sure, but consider going out on the streets of a culturally foreign country, and having a large majority of the indigenous population there want to kill you and having some succeed. Can you go there? It's enough to make you pretty mean and hateful Mean maybe. But we are not talking mean here......mean is shooting people and asking questions afterwards. Mean is pistol whipping someone for the hell of it. Unfortunately, we have had examples of mean. And they almost did. But what we also have is something very sick.....wiping a man down with his excrement.......its called scat.......or forcing one man to simulate a bj on another......or having women do things to them that are against their religion just for the hell of it or raping a young boy. These things did not happen because the indigenous population hates them.....these things happened because they enjoy them and they thought they could get away with them.......without reprisal.
