Nvidia Served With 4 Purported Class-Action Suits

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) said it was served with four purported class-action lawsuits on Thursday related to a U.S. Justice Department investigation of potential antitrust violations involving the company's computer graphics chip business.

The suits accuse Nvidia of violating consumer-protection laws and federal and state antitrust laws, practicing unfair competition and unjustly enriching itself, according to a filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The four suits were filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Nvidia, based in Santa Clara, Calif., said the suits were without merit and that it would vigorously defend itself. The plaintiffs were not identified in Thursday's SEC filing.

As reported, last week Nvidia disclosed that it had received a subpoena from the San Francisco office of the Justice Department's antitrust division. Competing graphics chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) said it had received a similar subpoena.

It's quite fast after receiving the first subpoena's.

I can't find a better link for the original source.

Is it possible that AMD initiated the suit? I certainly hope AMD will be spared from this kind of trouble. We should see a bit more detail later today (at the least confirmation of the absence or existence of a similar law suit against AMD).
