1. Oh come on, 4-socket Opteron is the poster child for direct connect architecture and always has been. That's why AMD has made its biggest marketshare gains in 4-way sockets and caused Intel to give one fsb to each processor to keep up in the MP space.

2. Do you know how many FXs are sold, something like 0.1% of sales, the 4-way server market is far more lucrative with K8s reaching 2K in price and being sold in far more volume. As for performance desktop the battle occurs in real volume at $300 and under.

3. That's fine if it was real BS but it isn't. Their statements make perfect business and technical sense. Intel took the stock from 40 to 20 not AMD with their P4 osborning with Conroe and they paid a heavier price in reduced profits than AMD did in Q2 and Q3. Most would consider ATI a good investment, I sure do. As to the 4*4 the important thing is that it turns up to combat the QX series at the same pricepoints which it does and it does beat it at a few benches which is even better PR value. As to 65nm well AMD has to wait for IBM really and if they were not ready they just were not ready. Hans has already stated that AMD are making more changes from 65nm than Intel is which is another good reason not to blame managment as there are technical issues to be overcome. 65nm was also the first node at which AMD is on the full IBM SOI process which also needs to be taken into account. K8L also had to wait until 65nm was ready so that was a knock-on effect.
