Here's a even cheaper one for $79: accurateit.com And a refurbished 22" one for $109:http://www.azatek.com/details.asp?iid=485 None of which are "Ebay". Besides with PCs, that cost is zero because people already have PCs. Last I checked, most homes didn't have HDTVs. MOst of those have higher resolution in their PC monitor that they get with their TV. My PC has a 5 year old 19" Hitachi CRT that does 1600x1200x75fps just fine. That's far better than most HDTVs which are at 1366x768, mostly displaying 1280x720p (60fps). We could go all out and pay $6K for a 22.2" 3840x2400 QUXGA LCD. Friend has one, but he is most definitely a "mine is better than yours" guy. He drives it with a 7950GTX. It can display 4 separate HDTV pictures, each as high as your new non "fake" HDYVs, side by side. HDTV CRTs can do 1920x1080p cheaper though at $900 compared to $3K for LCDs. Given the price for 1920x1080p LCDs, it will be a long time before more than 50% show that resolution or higher natively. As does complexity. I think you are missing the point that the consoles are mainly for idiots and kids. They are marketed that way. PCs are not idiot proof, they are not marketed that way, therefore consoles were able co claim such a huge portion of the gaming market. Media PCs can do gaming and it costs less than a separate PC, PVR and a gaming console. And set top boxes and gaming consoles are not idiot proof. Idiots are very ingeneous at breaking things. They misconnect things, use them incorrectly and many other such mess ups. I build my own PC and do know how to get it from point A to B. But others can purchase those capabilities either in a brand new box or upgrading an existing one. At $499 and 599, gaming consoles are priced too high. They need to be under $200, else adding in the stuff to your PC is cheaper than $499. And then there is the time factor. Today, it might be cheaper than a PC with the same capabilities. Next year the PC will have more capabilities for the same money or equivalent capabilities for far less. In two years, it will be a no brainer to use a PC over a PS3.PS: If Sony is basically handing people $300 check with their $500 consoles, BOM being probably in $600 to $700 range, it makes a tough competitor vs. PC, which is sold to make profit on hardware. $500 adds a lot into a PC for gaming and PVR. Even with installed by the store labor. PC Gaming has about 33% of the market. Here is some data on gaming market shares:answers.google.com Pete We were talking about the future.
