options aren't available for those symbols (yahoo shows options for SDS, but i believe these are for the predecessor company with that symbol, sunguard data systems), and a value would probably be hard to calculate for options on these "ultra" products that are double correlated with or against an index i agree however that if they did exist, the risk/reward would probably be quite unfavorable for selling puts short (or calls for that matter), because they could move against you so quickly, and as you noted, get seriously ugly
