Basically, modern liberals are TOTALITARIANS (witness the bakeshop and the banning and the censorship and the thought control). They have a profound contempt for the individual and have substituted Big Government for Dictators, Tsars, Pharaohs, etc. They are basically tribal and resent the individual urge to rise above mediocrity. This is a corruption of fundamental liberalism which was about individual freedom and personal initiative. Do they understand any of this? Of course not. They have no idea that they hate the individual and favor a tribal collective. Their urge to "equality" flows from a belief in the essential worthlessness of the individual and a desire to have society "managed" through a totalitarian paradigm. Again, do they understand any of this? NO. But if you read the bakery thread, it jumps out and hits you right between the eyes. Individuals are stupid, incompetent, and feckless. They must be "managed". And thus we have the raison d'etre of the Bakers of the world.
