That works in a fully employed market, but if the economy tanks employers that suck survive, provided they are profitable.

If they aren't profitable, they take their employees' pension plans down with them, witness ENRON and Kaiser Aluminum. That to me is criminal, because those employees made life decisions based on what they were told, which turned out to be a lie.

I've heard the Costco executive board has tried to cut employee benefits, but the CEO resists it because he knows it would cut into their productivity and his profitability.
