If you believe individuals create the world around them, then you favor freedom, less governance, and less "managing". If you believe that people are basically helpless, incompetent, lucky or unlucky, then you believe in special interest groups, special privilege, and managing of all resources--including the speech, the actions, and the property of individual humans. Censorship stems from a need to control. The need to control flows from a Weltanschauung where the individual is both helpless and contemptible. Independent thought must be feared and culled. What remains is useless toadyism masquerading as "discussion". Insofar as the flower children scorned individual responsibility...there is something in what you say.
