Quacking into the sunset, of course.

(From this point on... the most serious opposition to lame duck Bush comes from Republicans who --- unlike him --- will be facing voters again in 2008, 2010, and 2012. *Especially* the crop of Presidential contenders. On the other-hand, the Dems would like nothing quite as much [from a strictly political point-of-view] as Bush staying atop the daily news for a long while, crowding-out other Republican voices. Every month that happens as we close on 2008 improves the Dem chances.)

In short: the Dems will want Bush to be Bush... while the Reps will want him to step aside to let other Reps into the sunlight....
