If you want to understand Vietnam from Kerry's point of view read some of the books written by the actual combat vets, the grunts, the Green Berets, the SEALS, the ones who followed the orders of the LBJ and Nixon war policy. And don't forget to read the Vietnamese side too. And see the film "Fog Of War" to hear McNamara's confessions.

I am all for American military heroism and strength, but when wrongly used based on lies our armed forces can have a huge negative impact. It's not the troops' fault, it's the policy-makers fault. Troops are a-political. They simply obey orders and execute as best they can. All Kerry and his friends in Vietnam ever did was follow orders.

The real issue is who's in charge and why they are ordering troops into battle, plus whether they are lying to us or acting honestly. No one can say either Vietnam or Iraq was a just war, or that either country posed a threat to our mainland. We have had just wars, but those were the opposite. Those kind of wars need to end. Permanently. No more.

Like Vietnam, we will paying for Iraq for 20+ years. What a tragedy. I am so pissed at Bush-Cheney for starting that war and ignoring the lessons of Vietnam. They really do deserve to be hung up by their shorthairs for eternity. As for Kerry, he was a hero twice, which is why the rightwing hates him and smears him. Because is Kerry is vindicated, then the whole rightwing myth implodes. Kerry is a real righteous warrior. The chickenhawks of the corporate rightwing are the frauds.
