So the scientific approach in this case would be:

1. Collect an ice core from Greenland
2. Collect an ice core from North America

Home in on say 500-1500 AD

Compare the results and use the written sources from that time to establish what kind of climate they had in Greenland for a certain sets of samples and use that as a calibration reference for the American core.

Now I doubt that the resolution of those cores is good enough for that.
We talk about a resolution down to 100-200 years or so to make any sense.
Just guessing but I would be surprised if any meaningful resolution below 500 years can be established with any scientific support.
Correct me if being wrong though.
