Well submarines run on electricity why not convert the freighters to electric motors with an oil generator and solar panels across the freighter to gather solar power as an assist?

Let's see your calculations of kw/hr required for a freighter, how much is generated by the oil generator [oil? Could we call it diesel?] and how large your proposed field of solar cells will generate in kw/hr for a transoceanic trip?
