Reacting to the news on new sanction imposed under US pressure by Alcatel, former head of ICT Designs and Engineering Department, Mohammad-Reza Mohammad-Khani made the comment in an interview with CITNA. He added, “The French telecom firm Alcatel recently merged with the US Lucent telecom giant, which led to ending its deals with Iran.” The former ICT official reiterated, “SEL Company that is one of Alcatel’s subsidiary firms manufacturing Alcatel’s switches has so far sold electronic goods worth more than 400 million US dollars to Iran that are entirely problematic, having created endless difficulties for Iranian telecom companies and the ICT Ministry.” Mohammad-Khani added, “Among the other Alcatel facilities we have bough there is a two megabit telecom unit for city communications in Tehran, 61 satellite land stations, optic transmission facilities and low capacity switches, the quality of none of which has been satisfactory. He added, “To make a long story short, I can tell you that Alcatel has not completed even one flawless project in our country.” The former ICT official further stressed, “Alcatel’s sanction against Iran is beyond doubt to the benefit of our country,” adding, “that French company is not such a weigh in telecom world and I wish we had ended our cooperation with it much sooner.” Turning to internal lobbying in favor of certain foreign firms Mohammad-Khani said, “It must be clarified who provided the path for Alcatel’s permanent presence at ICT tenders so far.” ### - Eric -
