Re: "scandal and Schaivo..." "The republicans need to ditch the social conservatives and return to the historic base of the party or 2008 could be even worse."

Exactly.

OR... they could nominate Brownback or Romney. :-)

"They have far more senate seats to defend and the Administration's direction right now will not be helpful."

Yes... as I just pointed out:

The Dems would like nothing quite as much [from a strictly political point-of-view] as Bush staying atop the daily news for a long while, crowding-out other Republican voices. Every month that happens as we close on 2008 improves the Dem chances.)

In short: the Dems will want Bush to be Bush... while the Reps will want him to step aside to let other Reps into the sunlight....

The reasons the Repubs. lost are easily discernable...

1. Corruption....real and imagined.
2. Iraq war.
3. Fiscal policy.

1. The Repubs became just as corrupt and arrogant the dems they replaced.

2. The Admin. has done a piss poor job of connecting the risks which are presented by international terror organizations and rogue states with the purpose of the action in Iraq.

3. The spending levels (non-military) are insane.

That's what Repubs need to address before 2008.
