WHY stand in the way of them fighting each other, in an Islamic religious civil war... whether in Iraq, Lebanon, etc.? (It took decades of inter-Christian warfare across Europe before a respect for secularism and religious freedom of worship, and respect for the principle of keeping religions from running government, emerged in the Reformation and the Enlightenment.)
