Hmmm...interesting. Yes, it is true: a combination of democracy and personal greed (pandering to special interests to gain votes and hence power) has created an elephant that all the parties must now milk. Unfortunately, the conservatives did not appropriate the mantle of classical liberalism--Libertarians did. I grant you that the current pandering to the vote is not unlike a rudderless ship. Perhaps people do not want freedom. Perhaps they really are like bees. Maybe Thoreau was right to retreat to his pond. Maybe I ought to do the same.
