While I agree cache is where redundancy has most impact on diesize, are you insinuating there is no redundancy in logic in nowadays dfms?

It would make sense that there could be but in my experience I don't run across it, only talk of it. When you get to multi-cores it might make sense to have a redundant core that can be spliced in. I'm not saying that is isn't done now on some designs. Just that I haven't encountered it.
