"Well, how did they get a part from AMD long enough before launch to do the analysis for a PR unless AMD gave it to them?" Of course AMD gave them several. Just like Intel does when asked. Or anyone else. Everyone is convinced their process stacks up with the best. And they all have their strong points. "Granting early access is a nice lever to help ensure an "award winning" result-- " How so? "if they said it sucked, would AMD give them another part before launch again?" Umm, this isn't some Internet review site. It is unlikely there is any process that has truly sucked, at least not in the past few decades, hence that isn't a worry. They do uncover some things that the manufacturer has been quiet about, like at 90nm Intel was trumpeting some innovations that weren't in the samples that SI took apart.
