Seems to me that the use of the term "Christianist" is just a mean little poke at people who don't want to admit that Islam and Christianity have a key belief in common -- namely, the belief that the world would be a better place if everyone in it were Christian (if you're a Christian) or Muslim (if you're a Muslim).

Are their any -ists who don't think the world would be a better place if everyone thought like them?

[edit]:
I just looked up Sullivan's explanation. He says:

"People who believe in the Gospels of Jesus Christ are Christians. People who use the Gospels of Jesus Christ for political gain, and for a political program of right or left, are Christianists."

I might have to rethink this a bit.
