We are in trouble in Afghanistan because Bush ignored it while fixated on Iraq and let the Taliban, narco gangsters and AL Qaida sympathizers creep back into the game. The key moment was Tora Bora when we had Osama and all his top people trapped. The CIA called for 500 Rangers to block the escape routes, but Bush-Rumsfeld-Franks said no and they got away. Then Bush withdraw our best counter-terror hunters and sent them all to Iraq. So yes, we now have the possibility of a long and drawn out miserable struggle in that country which has been the bane of foreign forces ever since Alexander the (not so) Great. I know John Kerry would have sent in the Rangers. He was reportedly furious as he watched the Tora Bora coverage on TV, realizing Bushies were letting the #1 bad guys escape. Why we don't know yet. Incompetence or something more sinister. Do Bushies have some kind of secret deal with Osama throug the Saudis? Almost seems like it.
