I wish he could just say "We've won and we're leaving."

He missed that opportunity a couple of years ago.

I personally think it's too late to salvage anything. But I've said before if the man believes that it can still be won, then you have to do something to stabilize the country. Commit more troops if you have to, but do something different than stand by and watch the violence escalate.
