Sort of. James Wickersham, our first territorial (non-voting) delegate to Congress (1909-1920 and 1931-1933), was from Fairbanks. In 1915 he persuaded Congress to start a college there that evolved into UAF.

At that time Anchorage was just a tent city supporting construction of the new railroad. Now we have a large Anchorage branch of the university called UAA.
