That was a tough break on your housing entrance and exit in Juneau. Of course I'm joking about moving all the prisons to Fairbanks. In fact news just came out that they're planning a new prison at Point McKenzie, which is the destination of our Anchorage "bridge to nowhere". But my basic point is that if the capital is moved out of Juneau, they need to develop an alternative economy there. One idea would be to incentivize retired folks to move there, and support the economy with their pension money.

Speaking of prisons, it turns out that Tom Anderson, the Alaska state representative arrested by the FBI last week, was charged with corruption regarding a proposed new prison. He only raked in $12K or so on the deal, which is causing a lot of laughs around town. People are saying damn, if they sell their votes so cheap, why didn't I buy my own politician? <g>

Still no arrests of the other politicians who had their offices searched by the FBI in August. However, the buzzards are circling around Ben Stevens. Seems that he had very lucrative contracts to lobby for certain commercial fishing interests which benefitted from juicy federal earmarks inserted by his father, US Senator Ted Stevens.
