Why should he? It's the core logic that is scaling badly (along with the IMC), not the L2 cache.

From 183mm^2 at 90nm to ~125mm^2 at 65nm. Ouch. Newcastle (144mm^2) -->Winchester (84mm^2) looks fantastic by comparison.

EDIT: It is true that Intel has far superior L2 density, but they always have, IIRC.
