There was a knotty bunch who continued to support him after he resigned. "My Nixon right or wrong", I guess you could call them. I think most ideas and personality cults have a small portion of marginal folks who are at that level of support.

And the longer Nixon lived the more he was able to exert influence in the political arena and was held in esteem.
I always thought he was a sociopath and his tapes supported that theory. A good politician,however, as I think Bush is.. unfortunately for our Republic.
