Re the swiss franc, they seem to be keeping it close to the euro and in any event though in the past it had to be backed 40% by gold, that is no longer a requirement.

Seems to me that rather than buy a currency partially backed by gold, but that may not be backed by gold in the future, you are better off buying gold.

Holding francs and then exchanging them for euros down the line doesn't make sense to me.
