Aristotele did some thinking. So did Newton but then came some serious math in order to prove that his theories were right and the planets behaved accordingly.
That was my point.
As a matter it's also a generally well understood
point about the Grand Master, who would never have had time enough to accomplish his task messing around with log tables
and Babbage's theoretical engines only.

You see the first electronic computers were up running on tubes in the late 40s because the transistors and ICs were not invented as yet.

Nothing to be said against the technology art developed by Da Vinci (helicopter et al) or Babbage (computer) but since they made use of technology not yet developed, those pieces were but - art.

Newton spent his superior talent, brains and time of his early youth on practical stuff thus moving science 100s of years ahead.
That's why he could afford to speculate about God only the rest of his life.
