Hi Pog -- You can of course go back to cultures found in the Pacific region that used huge rocks as currency -- some as big as a house. If there is no trade outside an island, no new rocks, no new sources of anything to buy and no exhaustion of things to buy or changes in preferences or social status attached to ownership of anything that exists in limited supply the you can have a rock based money system that is stable until it is perturbed in some way. Our economy is wide open and it is deeply and profoundly perturbed.
