At the moment I’m in Brunei, a Muslim country nestled in Southeast Asia. At the University of Brunei, women outnumber men. Women here drive, fill senior offices in government and the private sector, serve as ambassadors and are pilots for the national airline. “Young women have equal opportunities now — it’s up to your capability,” said Lisa Ibrahim, president of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei.

Brunei is an artificial oil-rich nation created by the British. It is surrounded on ALL SIDES by Malaysia, and should really be a part of the Muslim nation of Malaysia, with its oil wealth shared by the 27 million Malaysians, not limited to the 400k citizens of Brunei. To site Brunei as an example of how Islam is a successful liberal religion is ridiculous. It's like using Palm Springs as an example of how no one gets left behind in the American economy. Brunei shows that when every Muslim is a wealthy millionaire with a yacht and a Mercedes, then they become tolerant. Big flipping deal.
