It would sure be nice if the Israelis had an anti-rocket system that could take out the Katyushas in flight.

To dig defensive forces out of urban terrain takes highly trained troops who will take terrific casualties.

The Israelis showed in Jenin that they can do it with casualties, but not "terrific casualties." But it depends what Hizbullah has, and the degree of their training. They are supposed to be much better than the Pals, but they still would have no air support. As this summer showed, the Israelis can basically tell the civilians to get out of the way or else when conditions are right.

Here is the problem. To dig defensive forces out of urban terrain takes highly trained troops who will take terrific casualties.

The other way is to flatten the urban area and inflict high civilian casualties.

These people know we won't do the second one.

I would hope the Israelis learned that making war for television doesn't work. According to Hizbollah every single casualty was a civilian. The Israelis found out what didn't work, I think they will start the other way next time and reduce to rubble the areas where Hizbollah hides moving much more slowly into Lebanon and leaving the roads to Syria open for the inevitable flow of refugees. Since it is now impossible to use tanks while the buildings are standing, there is another option.
