re: Of the whole lot of them, I think Richardson might make a good vice president [not president]. That's pretty much it IMO. How about you?

Don't know yet... I'm reserving judgement. Hell. I still like Wesley Clark!

re: I think there are 5 or 6 big social/political/economic issues that divide this country:

~a national health plan
~gay marriage
~the deficits
~SS
~energy independence
~race/affirmative action

If we can come to a compromise on these issues, I think the ideological differences that divide us can be blurred.

What's your reaction?

I just can't bring myself to thinking of "gay marriage" as a government/political issue. Sorry, I just can't. I think race/affirmative action takes a back burner. And you probably have to throw immigration onto the list... it is huge with a lot of people. And of course Iraq/foreign policy.

Of those I think the hot issues going into the next Pres election will be foreign policy, energy policy (the same thing?), immigration and health care. Nobody on either side wants to talk SS or the deficit.

Can we get to a compromise on those issues? I would say yes on foreign policy and energy policy; no on immigration and health care. But what do I know?
