Obama is a smart man. He knows he could be president, so long as he makes the right moves and at the right time. If the paternal order of Democratic wisemen tell him he should run, he probably will, if they tell him to wait or campaign lightly for a VP position, he will. He is not a fool. And remember who put him up for the senate job. It was Kerry.

Obama also watched carefully what happen ed to Harold Ford. He knows it is very borderline now in terms of the real deep-down racial situation in America. He also saw what they did to Colin Powell. They talked a lot about him running, but really didn't want him to. Democrats are much more liberal about race, but we also want to win, and don't want to hand the GOP an easy victory by giving them anyone they could smear with a single racist ad.

So I give Obama (who sadly sounds like Osama) a 25% chance of running for president. And a 75% of running next time.

As for Gore, I bet he won't run unless drafted due to some deadlock, which will probably never happen. The reason is a positive one, Gore is a happy man with his current life and running for president is a real bitch. It will take 5 years off your life and you still might lose.
