Stephen Cohen's hedge fund (SAC) is coming out against the PD/FCX merger as they believe PD is not selling for a fair price. They own 5% of PD, so not enough to stop the deal, I believe, but they could make some waves. Frank Holmes just commented on the situation on Bloomberg. Frank thinks copper is going to eight bucks eventually, though the next several months could be soft.

You've presumably heard of the just released ML report saying copper has peaked because US housing has peaked. I feel sorry for people following Merrill Lynch is all I can say.
