Not all of that is conjecture... No one gets money on a merger except for high management who might get bought out. Ruiz can give away AMD stock and make ATI holders rich at the expense of shareholders. Basically, no one wants to merger, everyone wants to get bought out. It's really not much different than a PE deal where they incur debt to the max. One thing that AMD excluded in the buyout was a PE buyout of AMD. No one would touch it now when PE firms are interested in buying out semi companies. Not that AMD is a good candidate...you have to show 20-30% returns in the next five years...
