You TOTALLY missed the point, but you just proved Dan3's argument. They could do that because the regulations allowed them to. It also proves their parents didn't teach them very well. Hopefully you did better with your kids.

Do you REALLY think the real estate industry is hard to understand? I took a one week course and nearly aced the state exam about 8 years ago. It's actually pretty trivial, which explains the low barriers to entry.

Just take away the government incentives to buy real estate and it will adjust to affordable levels. Kind of ironic since most of them were supposed to make homeownership affordable.
Then we can talk about your government pensions.
