kpf I did not understand him so. I believe where he was getting at is there is more and more dies basically functional, but not passing final checks anyway - for the reasons of intra-die variations which just do not allow to sell it. Yes, that's what he thinks is happening. It's simply not the case everywhere. Not that there isn't intra die variation, there is but it's not necessarily a major problem and it can still be screened for on the wafer. What this really says to me is that he deals with a poorly controlled fab and he thinks it's typical to not only scrap material due to performance problems, but also due to issues that couldn't be identified at sort.
