The activists chose Dean in 2004. Bradley or Nader in 2000. McCarthy in 1968. Tsongas in 1988. Who else? Jerry Brown, Jesse Jackson, etc. There have been a bunch of them. At least one every election.

And god forbid any of them actually get nominated. If they ever did, they'd lose 49 states like McGovern. Oh yeah, he was the one who got nominated. Wonderful man with a perfect name, and a war hero too. Never stood a chance. Muskie should have been the nominee, but Nixon sabotaged his campaign early.
