Sentenced to death, Iraq’s overthrown leader Saddam Hussein will reportedly be buried at a secret location.

Saddam Hussein and his two top aides, Barzan al-Tikriti and Awad Ahmed al-Bandar, will be executed immediately after an appeal court confirms their sentences.

“We are considering the possibility of executing Saddam, Barzan and Bandar at one time on the same day. We may bury Saddam at a secret location,” an Iraqi official said.

Lawyers for Saddam appealed the death sentence following the court’s ruling.

“Saddam’s body may later be handed over to his relatives, as under Muslim rituals we can exhume the body after it is buried. But one thing the government will ensure is that there is no memorial built for Saddam anywhere in Iraq,” the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging on Nov. 5 for ordering the execution of 148 Shiites from the village of Dujail and for crimes against humanity.

Former intelligence chief Barzan al-Tikriti and Revolutionary Court Chairman Awad Ahmed al-Bandar were also sentenced to death along with Saddam.

The sentences of Saddam and his two aides will be served after the appeal court confirms the decision.

Last month, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said that Saddam could be executed by the end of this year.

Chief prosecutor Jaafar al-Mussawi noted that they forwarded a demand to the court of appeals to convert the life imprisonment of former vice president Taha Yassin Ramadan into a death sentence.<
