Since so many people, including the Ahousat themselves with the whale tours and such, make so much money out of the pristine surroundings of Tofino, and they make it only because those surroundings look unspoiled, and since only rich people can afford to live in Tofino these days, IMO the determining factor for whether Catface might ever go ahead is whether the removal of the top of the mountain will be visible from Tofino and Clayoquot Sound.

Even Ucluelet, traditionally much more oriented towards resource extraction, is gentrifying rapidly as rich Americans buy up the real estate for summer playgrounds.

That said, I know there has been a great deal of consternation about the recent announcement of First Nations logging to come in Clayoquot Sound, which is something the environmental movement certainly didn’t expect to come out of the Clayoquot Accord negotiations. So maybe things will take an unexpected turn.

bmc.v - house 1 likes it today, bit of volume and a six-cent uptick so far ... [edit] - here's a response to an off-thread suggestion that Brilliant was so cheap because they hold a minority interest in Tramways - Message 23088857

goz.v - Haywood punches it back to .50 ... one of these times to that level will be the last of the series

dsr.v - sure but let's be clear what's happening - it's not about mining Catface, it's about mining the taxpayers' wallets ... yes Savage has done this before with Geddes, yes they can ally themselves with the indians who have become proficient in the latter industry, however a couple of things i don't like about it, 1. i'm not a fan of court-case plays, and 2. i'm one of the taxpayers they're planning to drill, lol

This morning i broke out about twelve cubic feet of sandstone with a railway pick and a lining bar ... top few inches was soft but underneath it's hard as, um, rock ... mining is hard work, yes maybe we should have another look at those taxpayers -g-
