Oh, I'm a supporter of the idea of friendly, cooperative relations with India --- the most populous Democracy in the world, and a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, as our society is.

(And English doesn't hurt the conduct of business, either....)

But I hardly think we need to 'encourage' India to pressure Pakistan (nor should we).

Those two nuclear-armed nations have more then a few areas of disagreement and conflict, and have been on the brink of nuclear war more then once.

(However, the growing economic and material success of India, and our warming relations with them, does plenty to illustrate for Pakistan --- should they care to observe --- that there *is* a big upside in peace, pluralism, and religious moderation.)

And the bombing of Taliban safe sanctuaries in Waziristan will also carry an important message --- if they won't act to root out the 'perps' (& it looks like they will not...) then we will.

However, don't think Dubbya has it in him. (He has already expended far too much energy protecting the Saudi Royals and their fellow extremist Sunnis in Pakistan, letting the big fish escape in the 'Airlift of Evil', etc....)
