TI's patent portfolio

<< Wasn't it the DSP IPR that Qualcomm needed from TI? >>

DSP and other aspects of semiconductor and wireless IC topography of which TI is exceptionally patent rich. TI does not have a significant holding of essential GSM/3GSM.

<< GSM came primarily from Moto, Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, Philips, and Alcatel. >>

... and WCDMA in cross licensing from Ericsson, Nokia, Moto, NEC, Matsushita, Fujitsu, and the other major contributors to the development of the standard and its subsequent commercialization in which stage TI played an exceptionally important role (they own WCDMA base station modem space as well as sophisticared applications processor space), of which QUALCOMM except for prior art (however important) was not one until ~mid-2001.
