The GOP is terrified of Kerry. He is their worst nightmare. Remember what he did to Iran-Contra, BCCI Bank, Noriega etc. ANd his pledge now is to go after Big Oil and end their dominion. That is the crown jewel of rightwing GOP dirty secrets, the trillion dollar ripoff. The only way they beat JK was by running their entire campaign as one big dishonest smear. Not a single thing they said about Kerry was true. And they got to the most ignorant swingvoters before Kerry could define himself to them. Still Kerry basically tied Bush. Especially when you subtract the votes Bush cheated to steal. It was very disappointing, but I guess Bush had just enough post 9-11 cred left to do it one last time. Plus Iraq wasn't the proven disaster it is now. Be assured, smearvets will have zero affect on Kerry going forward. They are discredited. They only stayed "possibly credible" for long enough for their smears to do the intended damaged. Nowadays, the same smearvets don't even dare to repeat their hundreds of lies about Kerry. They have all been proven inaccurate or outright fabrications, even by the conservative press. The Washington Times finished its big investigation of Kerry's military record and found it 100% admirable and honorable. Not a single detail out of order. But by then the damage had been done. Maybe 50,000 voters in Ohio believed the BS. And another 60,000 Ohio votes were stolen. If not a lot more. Just enough to win.
