syh, the implication of this competitive analysis was that SOI based processes would have a small but significant performance per watt advantage at 45 nm. It went on to say that that advantage would grow exponentially as geometries got smaller. So therefore, Intel would have to either switch to SOI for 32 nm or live with a large performance disadvantage.

Of course, if Intel's 45 nm process achieved the performance stated by Alan81, I would discount that entire assessment.
