Eight years ago Powell was a political force. He's useless now. His UN thing finished his political career - and it WAS his fault - he got snookered into weaving a case out of garbage. He should have resigned before selling stuff like poor drawings of a chem lab and a wooden airplane. Remember the UN inspectors? They begged the United States: "You keep saying you know Iraq has WMD. We're here. Tell us where they are and we'll head for the site immediately to investigate." If Powell couldn't see through that... Powell would be a decent VP candidate though the lies he told the UN really hurt him, even though it wasn't all his fault.
